The following is a personal story written by a young woman in India.
I am a female aged 34 years residing in India. In this article I try to recollect and narrate my experience in taking care of my elder sister who is suffering from breast cancer.
It was about two months ago when she detected a limp on her right breast, I took her to the nearest hospital. After carrying out the checkup, the doctor diagnosed that it is the beginning stage of breast cancer and it requires a detailed medical examination for which a specialist doctor is to be consulted. Immediately, I took my sister to the Regional Cancer Centre located about 200 kilometers away from our residence. There, after carrying out a detailed examination and also several lab tests, the doctors advised us that the affected breast is to be removed for which the patient has to be undergo a major surgery. I immediately arranged the money required for the surgery and after one week the surgery was done. After one week, she was discharged from the hospital and she is now taking rest in my house, by continuing the medicines prescribed by the doctor.
From the day on which the surgery was done, I am taking care of my sister for all her affairs. Initially she was suffering from severe pain and she was not able to even move a step forward and it was with my help that she could take food, take bath, etc. Still now, I am always with her as a full time bystander.Continue reading "Caring for a Sister with Breast Cancer, In India" »
